Bagpipes Pro offers an impressive collection of five meticulously crafted bagpipe sounds for the iPad, utilizing standard Scottish piping fingerings. The application allows for a range of transposition options up to +/- one octave in semitone increments and tuning adjustments up to +/- 50 cents, enhancing its versatility for musicians.

Included are five authentically sounding sets of bagpipes representing Scottish, Irish, and Swedish traditions:

  1. Great Highland Scottish Bagpipes - Renowned for their use in traditional Scottish marching music, these pipes are tuned in the key of Bb.
  2. Scottish Border Pipes - A smallpipe variant in the key of A, distinguished by a sound that offers a unique contrast to the Highland pipes.
  3. Scottish Smallpipes - Also in the key of A but an octave lower than the Border Pipes, producing a rounder and more bubbly tone.
  4. Irish Uillean Pipes - Characterized as bellows-blown instruments, these are tuned in the key of D.
  5. Swedish Säckpipa - This set offers a haunting, ethereal sound in the key of E.

The app requires users to disable "Multitasking Gestures" on their iPads to optimize performance, as it demands simultaneous use of up to eight fingers on the screen. Functionality includes start/stop drone capabilities via the drone puck and control over standard or alternate drone notes.

The Transpose slider facilitates instrument transposition by semitones, while the Tuning slider adjusts overall tuning offsets in cents. Users can reset these values to zero with a simple touch.

To play the chanter effectively, users should cover the bar at the top left using their left thumb and engage the top three holes with their left index, middle, and ring fingers. The bottom four holes are played with the right hand fingers from index to little finger.

Additions such as an information button for live performance controls and a help icon provide further assistance during use. Noteworthy audio samples for the Säckpipa have been contributed by Jonathan Parker from a Leif Eriksson instrument made in 1986, with acknowledgments to Mike DeSmidt for the drone puck image.
